With a touch of leather

It seems like leather sofas have been around since the dawn of day and it often seems like opinion on them is somewhat divided. For some they are the best type of sofa to ever have been designed, whilst for others they couldn’t think of anything worse than to have a leather sofa in their carefully put together living room. However, whether you love them or hate them there is denying their durability and versatility.

Leather sofas are like a classic piece of furniture which can be at home in any house, regardless of the decor. It is their versatile nature which makes them so appealing to many. However, it must also be said that many are often put off by the price tag that goes with this particular type of sofa. Although I like to think of the cost as a long term investment, when you consider the durability of a leather sofa in comparison to that of a fabric sofa it is apparent that the average person will save money in the long run. It seems that there is a common misconception amongst those who are anti leather sofas that this type of sofa does not last long and is easily damaged, but this is simply untrue. A leather sofa has the potential to tear but this is only if subjected to severe mistreatment and if the same mistreatment was given a fabric sofa it too would surely tear. In addition to this, leather sofas are much easier to maintain than their fabric counterparts. Whilst fabric sofas must endure stains, dirt and spillages leather sofas can easily cope with such wear and tear, making them ideal for a home with young children in it.

Moreover, not only are leather sofa practical but they are also stylish. Leather sofas now come in an abundance of shapes, styles and colours meaning that there is a leather sofa to suit every home. In fact a leather sofa can be the ideal for those who are trying to create a minimalist look. When trying to create this look it is best to opt for a clean cut leather sofa, with sharp edges and a definitive shape as this helps to reflect the ultra modern look. It has to be said that there is a great selection of leather sofas on the market which recreate this look beautifully.

Despite the fact that a leather sofa is the ideal piece of furniture for creating the minimalist look it is also possible to use a leather sofa to create that warm, cosy feeling within a home. When trying to create this homely feel within a living room, which so many home owners nowadays try to create, it is advisable to go for a leather sofa which has a much more rounded shape to it. You want to look for a leather sofa with rounded edges and which is more curved in nature. These styles of leather sofas are great as they are very spacious and generally very comfy. So they are ideal for the family or just for curling up on in front of the fire.

It is generally advisable when buying a leather sofa to opt for one that is black or brown in colour as these are more likely to fit in with the current and any future colour schemes. However, if you live in an ultra modern apartment and are really seeking to create a youthful, hip and cool feel you could experiment a little and opt for a whit leather sofa. I know what you are thinking and I can her hear the winces and screams of no but don’t be too dismissive of this notion. Within the right setting and with the right soft furnishings a leather sofa could be a real fixture, but this is not for the faint hearted and should only be tried by those who are truly dedicated to the minimalist look.

So don’t be too dismissive of leather sofas as they really are a great investment in terms of furniture thanks to their durability and versatility. So all you need to do now is decide which style of leather is best suited to you and your home but with so many great options this decision could be more difficult than you think!
